Tensioner

The chain tensioner is the mechanism on a chainsaw that adjusts and maintains correct chain tension on the guide bar. Correct chain tension is critical for safe operation — a chain that is too loose can derail from the bar and cause serious injury, while an overtightened chain accelerates bar groove and sprocket wear and can bind during cuts. Modern chainsaws typically use tool-free tensioning systems, but the underlying principles of correct adjustment remain constant across all designs.
